Benny Bwoy, the orthodox Jewish deejay also known as the “original Jewmaican” closed out 2006 by stopping into Jamaica where he shot his “Hot Girls” video. Shot by Stereo Belly, the video collaborators included Powermix Records and Mixing Labs’ Chris Thomas and the New York dancehall stylist. From hair braiding sessions at Grandspin, lounge scenes inside La Rouse in Portmore, to a swimming pool scenario at Carlene’s home, the shoot captured “Hot Girls” in Kingston, Spanish Town and Mountain View. Despite the whirlwind workload, the religious, music specialist devoted time to exploring the roots of Judaism in Jamaica. He visited the Jewish Heritage Museum, toured a synagogue and met with the head of the Jewish community Ainsley Henriques.

“I was quite surprised to learn that the Jews of Jamaica just celebrated their 350th anniversary,” Benny Bwoy stated. Benny Bwoy said the highlight of his trip was meeting Bunny Wailer at Tuff Gong Records. “He listened to “Hot Girls” and gave a thumbs up,” Benny Bwoy said, “it was like being blessed by the Grand Rabbi.”
